Growing Children Need Exercise to Do Well in School

Even if your child takes a physical education class everyday, he/she may not be getting enough exercise. To develop fitness, children need nonstop activity for at least 20-30 minutes a day.

Can a lack of exercise hurt your child? Yes. Here’s why exercise is so important:

  • Heart disease begins developing at an early age. Today some experts believe that children as young as first grade may be laying the groundwork for a heart attack later in life.
  • Your child will develop as she should if she exercises often. Exercise stretches muscles, strengthens bones, and makes the heart and lungs stronger—all needed for proper growth.
  • Kids who aren’t fit often don
  • T feel good. They may lack energy and be bored. Or, they might be restless and irritable. Lack of exercise can even cause behavior problems.
  • Children who are not in good physical condition don’t learn as well as they could. They aren’t alert. Their memory may not be fully developed.
  • An inactive child is likely to become an inactive adult. Behavior patterns are established early in life.

*Food for thought: If ignorance is bliss, why aren’t more people happy?
